Here's what to anticipate:

Inspections Across North America specially in border states: Inspectors will conduct on-the-spot inspections of commercial motor vehicles across North America for a duration of 72 hours. These inspections are designed to verify compliance with safety regulations and standards.
Focus Areas: Each year, the CVSA highlights specific focus areas for the Road check event. This year, inspectors will pay particular attention to the following:
Controlled Substance and Alcohol compliance: Inspectors will be vigilant in detecting any instances of controlled substance and alcohol possession by commercial vehicle drivers, as federal law strictly prohibits this.
Also, will required the proof that your company is enrolled in a drug and alcohol consortium (Random Program) as well inspector will check the results of the drug test
Tractor Protection: Inspectors will ensure that tractor protection systems are in place and functioning correctly to enhance overall vehicle safety.
Anti-Bleed Back Systems: The functionality of anti-bleed back systems will be checked to prevent potential safety hazards.
FMCSA Clearinghouse Emphasis: In the United States, there will be an additional emphasis on identifying prohibited drivers within the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse. This database contains records of commercial drivers who are prohibited from operating vehicles due to controlled substance and alcohol violations.
Preparing for Road check 2024
This involves ensuring that your drivers have all the necessary documentation to pass inspections seamlessly. CVSA inspectors will not only focus on the condition of commercial vehicles but also scrutinize driver qualification documents. Here's a breakdown of what you need to prepare:
1. Medical Examiner's Certificate: Interstate drivers operating vehicles weighing 10,001 pounds or more must possess a current medical card. This card needs renewal every two years or more frequently depending on health conditions. Lack of a valid medical certificate has been a common violation, so ensure all cards are up to date.
2. EDL LOGS- Record of Duty Status and Supporting Documents: Drivers must maintain accurate records of their duty status, including logs and supporting documents. This helps ensure compliance with hours-of-service regulations, which were a top violation category in previous Road check events.
3. Commercial Driver's License or Permit: Inspectors will check the driver's CDL or permit for expiration dates, class, endorsements, restrictions, and status. Valid licenses are crucial to avoid violations.
4. FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse Check: Inspectors will query the Clearinghouse to ensure drivers have no violations or prohibited status related to drug and alcohol use. If they find any prohibited driver in your company the driver will be pulled out of the road and your company will be held responsible
5. Drug and Alcohol consortium certificate: inspectors will request de consortium certificated of enrollment; you should have one certificate in each truck you r company has
