Strict Roadside Checks for Drivers and New Requirements Pose Risks for Companies That Fail to Comply with the Law! The Drug Clearinghouse is transforming the landscape of the transportation industry, and we cannot afford to ignore its impact any longer. The number of drivers with violations in the Clearinghouse is on the rise, with a driver's violation rendering them unable to operate commercial vehicles until they complete the mandatory return-to-duty process. This is not a simulation; this is the reality we face, and action must be taken NOW!

The efforts of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to streamline driver verification through the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse have undoubtedly helped reduce risk. Since the Clearinghouse allows companies to verify a driver's status before hiring, companies can avoid putting someone who is prohibited from driving in one of their trucks, thereby preventing accidents and fines.
Starting this month, roadside officers began checking the status of drivers in trucks as part of their routine. If your company is found with a driver prohibited from driving, they will be removed from the truck, and your company will face serious financial penalties and possibly even the closure of its authority. Avoid problems – a simple search in the Clearinghouse will save you from this!!

As of November 18th, the FMCSA will begin notifying state licensing agencies about drivers recently prohibited in the Clearinghouse. This will tighten things for companies and drivers even more, as new measures and requirements will come into effect for drivers prohibited from driving. Drivers with an open violation who have not started a return-to-work process will have their commercial licenses revoked. Likewise, drivers who started the process long ago and have not completed it on time will lose their license benefits. And new drivers reported with new violations will also be subject to this measure.
The Clearinghouse will be online with state agencies like the DMV, and information will be shared in real-time. So, drivers with violations will no longer be able to hide!!
It's time for both drivers and company owners to step up and take decisive action. Only 30% of drivers with violations in the Clearinghouse have initiated the return-to-duty process. This is unacceptable. We need every driver to understand the urgency of this situation and act quickly to rectify any violations and urgently start the return-to-work processes!!
For company owners, it is their responsibility to ensure compliance with Clearinghouse and drug and alcohol program regulations. Just last year, there were over 10,500 Clearinghouse-related violations, with thousands of drivers out of service during roadside inspections. Companies fined drastically and authorities revoked for taking the law lightly. This cannot continue. We must hold ourselves and our teams accountable to the highest standards of safety and compliance.
This is a call to action for every driver and company owner in the transportation industry. We cannot afford to overlook the severity of the situation any longer. Let's come together, prioritize safety and compliance, and ensure the integrity of our industry. The clock is ticking; let's act with urgency and determination.
