Pre-Employment Consultation

A pre-employment inquiry is a MANDATORY electronic verification of a driver's record with the Clearinghouse, as required of employers of CDL drivers under § 382.701. A full inquiry determines if a current or prospective employee is prohibited from performing safety-sensitive functions, such as operating a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), due to an unresolved violation of the drug and alcohol program. Electronic consent from the driver is required prior to each full query; General consent is required for limited inquiries.
